WCPE's Mozart at Noon

Wake Forest, NC (Vocus) June 1, 2009

Assistant Music Director Larry Kirwan announces the series "Mozart at Noon in June". Listen for a new Mozart composition every day in June during the Classical Lunch program. The performances will be a selection of piano concerti, symphonies, violin sonatas, divertimenti and more.

"The Tranquil Tune at Noon is on vacation," says Kirwan, who is also the Classical Lunch host. "You'll hear a balance of new talent-Hilary Hahn, Lise de la Salle," he continues, "and old masters like Vladimir Horowitz and Isaac Stern."

Highlights of the series will be Eine Kleine Nachtmusik June 2, the Haffner Symphony June 8 and the piano concerto No. 21 in C, nicknamed "Elvira Madigan" after the movie which featured it, on June 17. Other well-known works are Clarinet Concerto in A June 19 and the Jupiter Symphony, No 41 in C, June 29. The entire schedule can accessed in Quarter Notes, the WCPE Program Guide, at http://www.theclassicalstation.org/guide.

Community-minded business underwriters and foundations are among the 150,000 listeners in the North Carolina broadcast area. General Manager Deborah S. Proctor's leadership has enabled the WCPE community to include national and worldwide listeners. Big and small dish home satellite transmissions serve North America. Other radio stations and cable television systems use these services to rebroadcast Great Classical Music, 24 Hours A Day. WCPE is one of the first public broadcasters to stream on the Internet. WCPE is heard worldwide on the Internet in multiple formats, including the next generation IPv6. Because WCPE receives no tax-derived support, the station conducts two on-air fundraising campaigns and two major mail-out campaigns per year to raise needed operating funds. Quarter Notes, the WCPE Program Guide, is published four times a year as a means to enhance appreciation and understanding of classical music. It is distributed to station supporters and is also available online at http://www.theclassicalstation.org/guide.
